Ruth Mary (nee: Gough) Cooper

Age: 84
Ruth Cooper was born April 19, 1929 in Detroit, Michigan. She is survived by Arthur her loving husband of 64 years; four daughters, Diane Rothman, Nancy (Lawrence) Danko, Patricia Cooper and Carol Cooper; two sisters, Margaret Mergaert and Helen Brown; also survived by five grandchidlren and one great grandson; preceded in death by her brother George Gough. Visitation was on Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at St. Anne Catholic Church, (825 S. Ortonville Rd., Ortonville) followed by Mass of the Resurrection at 11:00 a.m. Fr. Gerard Frawley, Celebrant. Rite of Committal was at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly. Family requests in lieu of flowers memorial donations are suggested to the Salvation Army or Michigan Humane Society. Virginia Inman

Died: Thursday, February 13, 2014
Our beloved Mother, Virginia Catherine Inman, passed away on February 13, 2014.

Virginia was born in Neche, North Dakota on April 28, 1915 to Evelyn Myers and William Wilder.

She resided in Clarkston, Michigan, for many years with her late husband, Deforest Inman. Virginia was a member and disciple of the United Methodist Church of Clarkston. She obtained an Associates Degree in Nursing and enjoyed her work as an LPN at Lapeer Hospital and Goodrich General Hospital.

Our Mother was an accomplished gardener and loved cooking for her family; her cinnamon rolls were extraordinary!

Mother spent the last 12 years of her life in Bellevue, Washington, enjoying being closer to two of her children, her son Rick Howes and daughter Carol Miller.

She is also survived by her daughters, Kathleen Hodge, of West Branch, MI, and Connie Smithling, of Sault Ste. Marie, MI, and step daughter, Judy Pearson, of Crossville,TN.

Virginia’s many grandchildren are Beth Marie Quibel of North Port, FL, Keith Smithling of Ortonville, MI, Bruce Smithling of Sault Ste. Marie, MI, Thomas Howes of Bellevue, WA., and Ceri Howes of London, U.K. Great grandchildren are Stephanie and Dalton Quibel of NorthPort, FL.

A memorial celebrating our dear Mother’s life will be held later this year in Clarkston, MI, where she will be interned at Lakeview Cemetery.

Mary Joan FRIES

Age: 85
FRIES, Mary Joan “Jo” suddenly and peacefully passed away with her loving family at her side, February 11, 2014; age 85. Preceded in death by her husband Glenn. Loving mother of Derrick (Katie) Fries, Mark (Becky) Fries and Kurt Fries. Proud grandmother of Drew, Liam, Aidan and the late Meredith. Dear sister of John Green and the late David Green. Special Aunt of Alec David Popp. Jo earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Oakland University. She was a longtime volunteer at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital starting in 1975 and retiring in 2012. Jo loved to sail, swim, and taking long walks. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church. Funeral Service Friday 11 am at the Lewis E. Lance R. Nixon

Died: Tuesday, February 11, 2014
Age: 75
Nixon, Lance R.; of Lake Orion; age 75; passed away February 11, 2014. Lance is survived by his loving wife Linda of 52 years; loving daughters Lori (Robert) Hardt, Lisa Nixon Doane, and Lynette Nixon; special granddaughters Cassidy and Madison Doane; and dear sisters Kim (John) Roybal and Kerry (David) Borst.

Mr. Nixon owned Country Color Paint & Wallpaper, and Economy Furniture Stripping. He was a member of the Lake Orion United Methodist Church, a lifetime member of the Lake Orion Jaycees, and a Card Club member for more than 50 years. Lance enjoyed playing golf, doing yard work, and most of all hosting the annual Nixon Invitational Golf Tournament.

Memorial services were held on Saturday, February 15, 2014 at SPARKS-GRIFFIN FUNERAL HOME, Lake Orion. The family received friends on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. Betty Bunton

Age: 81
Betty Bunton of Goodrich, formerly of Ortonville was born August 1, 1932 in Pontiac, Michigan to the late Percy and Anna (nee: Allen) Whell. She married Norman Cecil Bunton on June 20, 1953 in Pontiac, Michigan. He died May 12, 1992. She is survived by three children, Elizabeth (Bill) Utley, Janet Kay (James) Coley and Norman J. Bunton; five grandchildren, Billy and Jessica Utley, Whitney and Shelby McGinnis and Fallon Coley; one great granddaughter, Kayleigh Ann Yoder; one sister, Gertrude Niedling; one brother Dale Boman; two sister-in-laws, Karen Boman and Anita Bunton; she was preceded in death by one brother, Doyle Boman. Betty retired from Brandon Schools and was a member of the Ortonville United Methodist Church. Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 15, 2014 at COATS VILLAGE FUNERAL HOME-ORTONVILLE. Interment will follow at Ortonville Cemetery. Pastor David Pratt officiated. DARBY, ELIZABETH “BETTY” of Clarkston; died February 9, 2014 at 89 years of age. Beloved wife of the late Elbert Darby; loving mother of E. “Jane” Darby, Susan (Chuck) Nehonsky, Kelly (Mark) Bruff, Barbara (Dan) Lewis and Wendy (Steve) Navin; step children Beverly (Charlie) Gibeaut, Jerry and Chuck Darby; dearest grandmother of 8 and great grandmother of 5; dear sister of Mary (Duane) Wood and preceded in death by 3 sisters and 3 brothers. Betty was a Registered Nurse working for many years at McLaren Hospital in Flint. She was also a faithful member of North Oaks Community Church in Clarkston. James Salloum

Age: 79
James S. Salloum, of Lapeer and formerly of Oxford, passed away on February 9, 2014. He was 79.

James is survived by his loving wife Wanda; children Mary Pamela (Tom) Sturner of Lapeer, Gregory (Cindy) Salloum of Cumming, Georgia, and Laura (Ulrich) Schwarz; 7 grandsons; 3 granddaughters; and 11 great grandchildren.

He is also survived by his brother Gary Salloum of Florida; and aunts Hazel Salloum and Louise Jackman.

Mr. Salloum was part owner of Creative Techniques in Auburn Hills.

He was a former member of the Oxford Village Council, Police and Fire Boards and member of the Lions and Optimist Clubs of Oxford.

He was an inventor and enjoyed woodworking.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Feb. 13 at 11 a.m. at Sparks-Griffin Funeral Home in Lake Orion. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, Feb. 12 from 5 to 8 p.m.

Interment will be Eastlawn Cemetery.
