Earl "Jack" C. Cooksey

Age: 63
Earl C. “Jack” Cooksey; of Lake Orion; age 63; passed away December 10, 2015. Jack was the loving husband of the late Susan Cooksey; dear father of Dana (Brian) Falls, and the late Brandon and Nicholas Cooksey; grandfather of Kyle (Nicole) Falls, Cole Falls and Megalia DeVita; great grandfather of Kane and Aliyah Falls; and son of Cladie and the late James Cooksey. Jack is also survived by his brother Bud; his niece Jen; 3 great nieces; and many friends and family.

A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, December 28, 2015 at 4pm at SPARKS-GRIFFIN FUNERAL HOME. The family will receive friends from 2pm until the time of service. Reflections may be shared with the family at www.sparksgriffin.com

James and Jo Ann Thomas

Age: 73
James Frederick and Jo Ann Thomas (1942-2015)

James “Jim”Frederick and Jo Ann Thomas, high school sweethearts and long -time residents of Oxford, both passed away this week at the age of 73. They were the parents of Darrin (Lisa) Thomas of Lake Orion and devoted grandparents of Kennedi and Kyle Thomas.

Jim, who passed December 8, worked in the General Motors finance department for 36 years. Jim was an avid duck decoy and John Deere toy tractor collector. He enjoyed reading and learning about history.

Jo Ann, who passed on December 10 - 36 hours following her husband, worked in several industries as a bookkeeper and office manager. She enjoyed collecting precious moments and dolls.

In the couples later years they made their winter home in Winter Haven, Florida where they enjoyed sunshine, card games and eating out. They were dedicated spectators at their grandchildren’s sporting events and fans of Detroit Tigers baseball and MSU Spartan sports.

Jim is survived by his mother, Beatrice; three younger brothers: Dennis (Denise) Thomas; Michael (Patricia) Thomas; Steven (Cheryl) Thomas; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Albert.

Jo Ann is survived by her three siblings; Dick (Stella) Duckert; Janet (Duane) Glasgow; Joyce (Richard) Danforth; special niece Karla (Mike) Dennis; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim; parents Althea and Harold Duckert; and brother-in-law Harold Harbar.

Their service will be, as their lives were lived, together on Saturday, December 12, 11:00 a.m. at Lynch and Sons Funeral Home in Oxford, with visitation the hour before. Visitation will also be offered on Friday, from 4—8 p.m. The funeral home is located at 39 West Burdick in Oxford. Reverend Rik Cryderman will be officiating. The couple will be laid to rest in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Dryden, MI. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Nancy B. Clemons (Roberts)

Died: Sunday, December 06, 2015
Age: 76
Clemons (Roberts), Nancy B. of Harbor Springs, MI; formerly of Flint, MI, age 76, died in the loving arms of her family December 6th, 2015. Nancy was the wife of her beloved husband of 57 years, Dale; Mother of Cyndi (Jerry) Shumaker, Dawn Chalmers and Penny (Kyle) Canada ; Grandmother of John & Robbie Chalmers, Christopher, Drew & Merrick Canada and Bernadette Mcdonald. She is survived by her great grandchildren and many great friends throughout her life including the amazing loving caregivers at The Pines of Clarkston. Nancy treasured her family and friends and was devoted to her faith. She was active as a volunteer at Holy Childhood Catholic Church and Christ Child Society in Harbor Springs.

Nancy, alongside her best friend and husband shared her gifts of hospitality and friendship as co-owner of The Plush Pony, The Harbor Springs Motor Inn and The Cupola Room. We will remember her smile, her warmth, her energy, her love for life, and deep love for family and friends. She made a difference in the lives of many and will be deeply missed. A private mass will be held to celebrate Nancy’s life.

Everyone who remembers Nancy is asked to celebrate Nancy’s life in their own way… Raising a glass to toast her, sharing a story or an unexpected and unsolicited act of kindness for someone in need in her name. James R. Leach

Died: Sunday, December 06, 2015
Age: 76
James (JIM) R. Leach Sr. born on North Broadway in the Village of Lake Orion on March 13, 1939. He passed away December 6, 2015 at 76 years of age and lived all of his life in Lake Orion. Jim was preceded in death by his parents Samuel & Josephine Leach and his daughter Kathleen. He was the brother of Sharon Wittkopp; loving husband of Karol; father of Carol Ketelsen, Laurie Dufour, and James Jr.; the Other Dad of Kim Leach; Step Father of Lynn Schlaf and Barbara (Mark) Schuller; grandpa for six and great-grandpa for two. Jim had been with the Lake Orion Police Department for 55 years and served as Police Chief for 19 years when he retired in 2001. He served as the President of the Oakland County Chiefs of Police in 1990-91 and served as a Firefighter for Orion Township for 19 years. He was elected as one of the last Constables for Orion Township. Jim was a Charter Member of the Lake Orion DeMolay and served as Master Counselor in Lake Orion and also served as a State Officer. He served as the Cub Master of Cub Scout Pack #37 and was a Little League Coach for Little League Baseball. Jim has been a member of the Lake Orion/Oxford Knights of Columbus Council #4764 for 49 years. Jim served in the US Army from 1956 to 1964 and is a member of the Amvets Post 108 in Oxford. Jim has been a member of Lions International for 55 years and is a member of the Rochester Lions Club. He has served as the President of Rochester, Chesterfield Bay, and Lake Orion Lions Club. He also served as the District Governor for Oakland and Macomb Counties in 1985-86. Jim served on the Board of Directors for Penrickton Center For Blind and Handicapped Children for 32 years. He also served as the President of the Board for Penrickton Center in 1989-90. Jim was one of the Founding Lion Members on the Lake Orion Lions Camp for Vision Impaired Children that is now called the Lions Bear Lake Camp. Jim was given the Melvin Jones Award and the Progressive Melvin Jones Award. He has been also given several awards for his work as a District 11-A2 Lions Editor for the Lions State Magazine. He has been given several Governors Appreciation Awards for his work in District 11-A2. Jim was given the United States President’s Lifetime Volunteer Award.

Viewing will be Wednesday and Thursday from 3-9 at Sparks-Griffin Funeral Home located at 111 East Flint Street, Lake Orion.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, December 11, 2015 at 11:00am at the Lake Orion United Methodist Church located at 140 East Flint, Lake Orion. Interment Eastlawn Cemetery.

James (Jim) R. Leach Sr., a lifelong resident of Lake Orion, passed away December 6, 2015. He was 76.

Jim was born on North Broadway in the Village of Lake Orion on March 13, 1939.

Shirley McArthur

Age: 86
Shirley Anne McArthur, age 86, born in Detroit, Michigan on January 28,1929 and died December 5, 2015. She was a long time resident and business owner in Lakeville, Michigan.

Shirley was preceded in death by her mother Virginia Robins, her son, Larry Brady, former husband, Jerry Davis, and brother, William Robins.

Loving Aunt of Sandy Bay-Mahrle (Jerry Bay) (the late Keith Mahrle), Michael Robins (Michelle), and William Robins ( Robin). Shirley was also loved by many great-nieces and nephews.

Shirley's last day was shared with Harley, her most recent "furry friend."

A funeral service will take place Thursday, December 10, 2015 at the Lakeville United Methodist Church, 1422 Milmine St, Leonard, 48367, at 3 PM with visitation beginning at the church at 10 AM.
